House on a workshopThe atypical request to make a house half of which is a workhouse requires an atypical answer. The meagre construction budget calls for robust materials and an industrial construction method. On the ground floor, a shed is erected over almost the entire envelope. The living quarters are located in a parabolic roof structure on top of the workshop. The living area is reduced to an absolute minimum, without compromising on spatial quality and finish. The curved wooden panelled trusses dictate the structure of the house and give the interior a special character. The roof simultaneously becomes the façade, maximising the surface area within a small budget.Within the austere materiality, rich detailing and sculpturality are sought, giving the house a peculiar signature.
